Forehead Acne – Considerations before It’s TOO Late

Forehead AcneForehead acne may not be as common as acne on the cheeks, but the pimples, both small and large, are still a nuisance considering their unsightly appearance.

Yes, the zits on the forehead can be covered by hair (i.e., bangs) and headwear (i.e., trucker cap), but these are not recommended because these can worsen the skin condition.

What then should you do in order to enjoy effective forehead acne treatment?

Considerations Before It’s TOO Late

A pimple in any other location is still a pimple.  As such, forehead acne still requires the appropriate preventive and treatment measures despite the popularity of the abovementioned ill-advised methods of hiding it.  These measures can be used at home.

Dermatologists strongly suggest the adoption of the following general preventive measures against pimples, which are applicable whether the zits have yet to make their appearance or have already sprouted like mushrooms overnight.

  • Concern #1: Drink plenty of water; eight 12-ounce glasses of water should be sufficient for the entire day, while drinking natural fruit juices (i.e., fresh orange juice) is also beneficial.
  • Concern #2: Avoid drinking alcohol; coffee, and soda as well as sweetened beverages. These drinks contain substances that result in unhealthy skin.
  • Concern #3: Eat a healthy diet; of fruits, vegetables and whole grains as well as lean meat, fish and low-fat dairy products. Keep in mind that the best acne prevention and treatment program rests on a healthy diet, which is necessary to maintain healthy skin cells from the inside out.
  • Concern #4: Adopt healthy lifestyle habits; get sufficient hours of sleep at night. Practice good skin hygiene habits like washing your face with hypoallergenic wash, taking daily baths, and washing the hair as well as applying moisturizer and sunscreen at appropriate times.
  • Concern #5: Adopt a regular moderate exercise program; even brisk walking for 30 minutes a day will suffice and engage in relaxation time to relieve stress.

By taking good care of your body in general and your skin in particular, you will more likely be able to enjoy faster healing of your zits in the present and to prevent the appearance of pimples in the future.

Specific Considerations

Forehead acne requires a different set of preventive measures from acne on the nose, cheeks and neck because of its location.  The pimples, perhaps even the pustules, nodules and cysts, on the forehead are exposed to more irritating substances from hair products, headwear, and even from the hair itself.

This is especially true for individuals whose hairstyle involves bangs, side fringes and the like.  Here are a few recommendations to consider in forehead acne treatment.

  • Consideration #1: Avoid too much; even with hypoallergenic cleansers as your skin will become more irritated with over-cleansing, thus, worsening the pimples’ appearance on your forehead.
  • Consideration #2: Carefully consider the hair and skincare products; especially products you have been using just before your pimples appeared and beware of products containing benzoyl peroxide.  Make a diary so that you can monitor these products and then change products, when necessary.
  • Consideration #3: Wash your hair more or less; depending on its oil level for example, if you have oily hair, you may want to wash it more frequently as its oil adds to the oil on your forehead’s skin. Avoid allowing hair to fall over the forehead.
  • Consideration #4: Use fresh Bedclothes; regularly wash your pillowcases, blankets and bed sheets because these can accumulate dirt, which makes contact with the skin and worsens pimples.

One and half year ago acne started on my face and it got worse with time. I consulted with a lot of dermatologists but nothing helped me. I am a medical student and then I started to study about acne. Now I have clear face with no acne, my age is 20 now, and I was 19 when it started. Some points which I want to tell you are: 1) Please drink plenty of water. 2) Please don’t use any local creams that claim that it will cure acne, this and that. 3) Don’t use soap on your face, use an oil control face wash. 4) Don’t touch your acne. 5) Change the cover of your pillow every day or every second day. 6) Don’t use towel to dry your face, use a tissue paper, once you dry your face by towel and then again you use that towel then the germs can attack. 7) Use multivitamins on daily basis. 8) And don’t worry about scars left because it will cure with time. 9) And last, it take time to cure, so be patient – like growing a beard….

Fantastic website. Lots of useful details in this article. I had acne when I was in 10th grade and I have been using several antibiotics, alcohol based drugs and peroxide . Unfortunately they haven’t worked, I’ve now started using soaps and cleansers for oily skin, but I’m having a hard time because my face is sometimes itchy and I can’t help but touch my face!

    • Lionel says:

Hi Sadowsky, try a topical application of just a little honey. Honey is an antiseptic thus it deprives the spots of oxygen and it brings it to a head overnight. It also is invisible to other people so it is not unsightly.
